Rev. Lonnell I. Lawson, Sr., Ph.D
The life of Lonnell I. Lawson Sr. finds its roots in Kinston, NC being the second oldest of six children. There, he was raised by his parents, Rev. Daniel Lawson Sr. and Evangelist Bertrina Lawson, in the United Holy Church of America. At the early age of thirteen, after hearing the voice of the Lord say, “feed my sheep”, he accepted the call to preach the Word of God.
After graduating from StamfordHigh School in Stamford, Connecticut in 1971, Bishop attended the University of Hartford in West Hartford, CT. Graduating with a BS Degree in Business Management in 1975, he accepted an offer to work for an Employee Relocation Company whose area of responsibility included: California, Nevada, Hawaii and Pennsylvania. He received valuable knowledge in the fields of real estate and financing. He received his Masters of Theological Studies from VisionChristianUniversity and his Doctorate of Philosophy in Religion degree in 2005 from his home state college, North Carolina College of Theology.
In 1978, he founded and organized Powerhouse Temple of Deliverance Church Inc. as a result of a weekly Bible Class group he held in his home This unique ministry serves as a voice in the earth proclaiming a Kingdom message through Kingdom methods with Kingdom manifestations. He is in demand for his relevant emphasis on the subjects of: Present Day Truths, Reformation of the Church and its Government and the Partnering of the Apostolic and Prophetic Dimensions. Bishop’s main thrust is the infusion of Kingdom ministries as it relates to entrepreneurship in the global marketplace.
The preaching of the Kingdom message involves not only wealth but also health. Pastor Lawson linked his ministry with the community in l991-2003 when he was employed by the HillHealthCenter. As supervisor of the HIV/AIDS Division, and a certified Health Educator, he targeted high risk youth with education and prevention outreach programs.
As an Apostolic Father, he is one of the founders of Kingdom International Assemblies of Churches, Ministries and Businesses, Inc. (KIA). This covenant partnership fosters nurturing and caring for pastors and leaders in accountability and integrity. This Kingdom Network is a catalyst for promoting and advancing Kingdom paradigms and excellence in ministry.
Traveling and carrying the Word of God is a passion that has taken his preaching ministry to such nations as: England, Japan, Korea, Holland, Jamaica, Jerusalem and many cities in America as well. He hosted radio broadcasts “The Hour of Power” and “Kingdom Wealth”, and could be seen on cable TV in a program called “The Hour of Power”.
Bishop Lawson is currently serving his third term as President of the Greater New Haven Clergy Association. The Association is the oldest clergy group in the city founded in the late 1940’s. Their mission is to advocate for the rights and privileges of individuals living in the New Haven community. Their purpose is accomplished through political, educational and religious means with Godly guidance and direction.
Recently, Bishop Lawson completed the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Residency Program at YaleNew HavenHospital. In May of 2009, he was asked to take a staff position in the Department of Religious Ministries. His acceptance made him the first African American Staff Chaplain at YaleNew HavenHospital.
